Sylvia | In reply to @grote:matrix.org Is there any way to appeal to those decisions? The last one no but this one we got an option to repeal | 14:48:26 |

We chose the developer name "Free Your Android" as a nod to the long-standing FSFE campaign of the same name. A campaign about using Android with as close to no non-Free (as in Freedom) software as possible. We thus do not see how this name violates any Google policy.
For more information about the Free Your Android campaign, we would like to refer you to https://fsfe.org/activities/android/android.en.html. This is meant for the appeal | 14:48:39 |
Licaon_Kter[xmpp] | Public shaming on twitter/HN appears to be the way to get support from monpolies..e | 14:48:48 |
Sylvia | _hc: Seeing you want to fight them too, how about I try the appeal and if that doesn't work I go ahead and rename? | 15:23:24 |
_hc | sounds good to me! | 15:23:38 |
Sylvia | Oh btw the rejected "update" was me clicking "F-Droid Nearby is not a COVID-19 tracing app" | 15:28:14 |
Sylvia | If anyone wonder what was being "updated" | 15:28:30 |
Sylvia | Oh Mailcow looks like a pretty awesome option for our email stuff | 15:45:47 |
Sylvia | People are my dayjob seem to love it and they do have a managed variant | 15:46:03 |
grote | In reply to @SylvieLorxu:matrix.org This is meant for the appeal Maybe mention free as in free speech not free beer. | 16:12:51 |
Sylvia | Already send in the appeal but maybe next time | 16:13:38 |

proletarius101 | I wonder how many non-technical ppl know how to directly download an app from f-droid.org 🤣 | 17:07:08 |
proletarius101 | I have received uncountable reports that they don't know how to do so. Or they wrongly download the fdroid store (without any instruction that how can they continue install the desired app) | 17:08:45 |
proletarius101 | And since the description can be long and there are too many links ahead, even the misleading "Download F-droid" button can not be easily reached | 17:10:11 |
Licaon_Kter[xmpp] | proletarius101: once they install the store they dunno what to do next? | 17:10:17 |
Licaon_Kter[xmpp] | > Packages | 17:10:52 |
Licaon_Kter[xmpp] | > Although APK downloads are available below to give you the choice, you should be aware that by installing that way you will not receive update notifications and it's a less secure way to download. We recommend that you install the F-Droid client and use that. | 17:10:52 |
Licaon_Kter[xmpp] | > Download F-Droid | 17:10:52 |
proletarius101 | In reply to @_oftc_Licaon_Kter[xmpp]:matrix.org proletarius101: once they install the store they dunno what to do next? sure, unless they understand the whole "operating system" and "app store" things | 17:11:01 |
Licaon_Kter[xmpp] | Well, if they want to install APKs....that's learning too... | 17:11:30 |
proletarius101 | and there are so many clicks before they can install the desired app | 17:11:45 |
Licaon_Kter[xmpp] | That's G's fault... | 17:12:02 |
grote | I think the Ux on the website is intentionally bad, because we want people to use the client, so they can get updates, instead of one-off downloads. | 17:12:08 |
proletarius101 | In reply to @_oftc_Licaon_Kter[xmpp]:matrix.org Well, if they want to install APKs....that's learning too... not really. click the link, click download, then click install | 17:12:09 |
proletarius101 | In reply to @grote:matrix.org I think the Ux on the website is intentionally bad, because we want people to use the client, so they can get updates, instead of one-off downloads. yes. that's alarming... maybe better than Google Play Store but still sounds like gardening the "ecosystem" | 17:13:51 |
proletarius101 | and is pretty much non-usable for non-technical persons | 17:14:20 |
