@Coffee:matrix.orgCoffee Then again, that's just my idea. I'm really not very familiar with the translation tools and translators' needs. 10:08:13
@nico:dorfbrunnen.euNico So unfortunately I won't have much time later then for the meeting, but I would like to hear other's opinions on admin#94. I.e. whether they think an own Matrix server is worth it, whether we need the fully featured setup by @max:kamax.io or if we could go with a simpler setup maintained by @mathijs:matrix.vgorcum.com (and me as a backup). 10:46:45
@freenode_[gibot]:matrix.org[gibot][admin] #94: Set up own Matrix Homeserver for F-Droid related … - https://gitlab.com/fdroid/admin/issues/9410:46:48
@nico:dorfbrunnen.euNico @eighthave:matrix.org already offered one machine for doing this, however I also read he's thinking about using it for other stuff like the wiki. So that's for consideration whether we need a Matrix server. 10:47:48
@freenode_mvdan:matrix.orgmvdan changed their display name from mvdan (IRC) to mvdan.11:02:56
@eighthave:matrix.org_hcFYI, we have enough "points" for a couple VMs11:06:24
@eighthave:matrix.org_hcthe blog VM would be tiny11:06:31
@freenode_craftyguy:matrix.orgcraftyguy changed their display name from craftyguy (IRC) to craftyguy.11:10:48
@nico:dorfbrunnen.euNicoAh, so we could make one large or several tinier machines?11:13:19
@Coffee:matrix.orgCoffeeI think we should give running our own matrix thing a try, but start out small.11:24:01
@eighthave:matrix.org_hcwhat kind of specs would be needed for the matrix VM?11:38:44
@Coffee:matrix.orgCoffeeAbout 2G of RAM to be on the safe side for a small setup, reasonable amount of cpu power and lots of disk.11:40:26
@mathijs:matrix.vgorcum.comMathijslots of disk is a bit undefined, but pretty accurate11:41:58
@Coffee:matrix.orgCoffee It's kind of hard to estimate how much it will use, how fast. 11:42:27
@mathijs:matrix.vgorcum.comMathijsit mostly depends on how many rooms will be joined from the server11:43:05
@Coffee:matrix.orgCoffeeHow much total disk does your setup use now Mathijs, including pgsql and the media store?11:45:00
@mathijs:matrix.vgorcum.comMathijslemme have a look11:45:21
@eighthave:matrix.org_hcI just can set #cores, RAM, disk size11:45:28
@eighthave:matrix.org_hcwho is thinking about running this server?11:45:52
@eighthave:matrix.org_hc Marcus (BubuIIC): I'll be in Berlin at the end of this month, partially for this https://freedomonline.de 11:46:13
@eighthave:matrix.org_hcwe should meet up 😀11:46:19
@Coffee:matrix.orgCoffee
In reply to @eighthave:matrix.org
who is thinking about running this server?
Mathijs and Nico have volunteered I believe.

@eighthave:matrix.org_hc👍11:46:45
@mathijs:matrix.vgorcum.comMathijs8.6 GB media store, 14 GB postgresql11:47:24
@Coffee:matrix.orgCoffee I have zero experience running an actual synapse, but I know enough about matrix that I'd probably be able to do something in a pinch. 11:47:33

yes
11:47:57
@Coffee:matrix.orgCoffee_hc: How easy or how hard would it be to add more disk to the VM later?11:48:17
@mathijs:matrix.vgorcum.comMathijs
In reply to @mathijs:matrix.vgorcum.com
8.6 GB media store, 14 GB postgresql
of course we'd also need the synapse install, python dependencies and postgres install itself
11:48:39
@mathijs:matrix.vgorcum.comMathijsand like a debian base11:48:48
@mathijs:matrix.vgorcum.comMathijseither that, or go with docker11:48:53
