Licaon_Kter[xmpp] | > not really. click the link, click download, then click install | 17:17:43 |
Licaon_Kter[xmpp] | Do tell how to simplify? | 17:17:43 |
Licaon_Kter[xmpp] | One thought would be.... INSTALL_REFERRER (two R or two F? Damn) | 17:17:44 |
Licaon_Kter[xmpp] | You download F-Droid, but...after it downloads the index it installs the app that you opened the page for... | 17:17:44 |
proletarius101 | In reply to @_oftc_Licaon_Kter[xmpp]:matrix.org You download F-Droid, but...after it downloads the index it installs the app that you opened the page for... If you insist the user should promptly install fdroid rather than use the website directly | 17:18:51 |
Sylvia | I think 99.9% of people should install F-Droid instead | 17:19:07 |
Sylvia | So they get updates of the apps they install | 17:19:13 |
Sylvia | Very few people will want the apps without F-Droid | 17:19:20 |
Sylvia | But we should not remove that option, just have it be secondary | 17:19:27 |
Licaon_Kter[xmpp] | proletarius101: I still didn't hear what "use the website" should do exactly? adb install via WebUSB?! | 17:20:11 |
proletarius101 | In reply to @_oftc_Licaon_Kter[xmpp]:matrix.org proletarius101: I still didn't hear what "use the website" should do exactly? adb install via WebUSB?! Can't you install the APK directly from browser? | 17:20:36 |
proletarius101 | I mean visit f-droid.org on mobile | 17:20:48 |
Licaon_Kter[xmpp] | proletarius101: not really. click the link, click download, then click install | 17:20:57 |
proletarius101 | In reply to @_oftc_Licaon_Kter[xmpp]:matrix.org proletarius101: not really. click the link, click download, then click install Yes. At least it's universal | 17:21:24 |
Licaon_Kter[xmpp] | As said, on that page and by others, it's a bad thing to install an one-off apk...and never get updates... | 17:21:47 |
proletarius101 | In reply to @_oftc_Licaon_Kter[xmpp]:matrix.org As said, on that page and by others, it's a bad thing to install an one-off apk...and never get updates... But is it worse than not being able to install at all? For general users | 17:22:39 |
Licaon_Kter[xmpp] | > proletarius101: once they install the store they dunno what to do next? | 17:22:56 |
Licaon_Kter[xmpp] | If so, that's what we should tackle, imho | 17:23:11 |
Licaon_Kter[xmpp] | Hence my referrer idea... | 17:23:28 |
proletarius101 | In reply to @_oftc_Licaon_Kter[xmpp]:matrix.org One thought would be.... INSTALL_REFERRER (two R or two F? Damn) If we convert the install fdroid app button to a plain install button, with all these in the background, then it should be usable | 17:23:38 |
proletarius101 | In reply to @_oftc_Licaon_Kter[xmpp]:matrix.org > proletarius101: once they install the store they dunno what to do next? Yeah they realize that they install the wrong app | 17:23:59 |
proletarius101 | Given that they don't know fdroid at all | 17:24:16 |
Licaon_Kter[xmpp] | https://gitlab.com/fdroid/fdroidclient/issues/1932 | 17:26:11 |
Licaon_Kter[xmpp] | > Given that they don't know fdroid at all | 17:27:23 |
Licaon_Kter[xmpp] | Then there's no surprise at all, be it a "site" or an "app store". | 17:27:23 |
Licaon_Kter[xmpp] | They end up here from somewhere, so there must be a "back story" of why they came. | 17:27:24 |
grote | _hc: Downloading apps from a flash-drive repo seems to be broken at the moment. Can reproduce on latest stable, so not a bug in my code. The IntentFilter in InstallManagerService doesn't seem to match the intent from the Downloader. From the docs:
a content URI will never match because they always have a MIME type that is supplied by their content provider.
Won't investigate further now, but thought I'll let you know.
