@mathijs:matrix.vgorcum.comMathijstl;dr: we can set up our own irc bridge on matrix.f-droid.org21:10:00
@mathijs:matrix.vgorcum.comMathijsor we can wait for the load of the matrix.org bridge admins to lighten enough to help us out21:10:22
@cdesai:matrix.orgcde
In reply to @mathijs:matrix.vgorcum.com
tl;dr: we can set up our own irc bridge on matrix.f-droid.org
this would then need some co-ordination with irc admins though to allow that kind of traffic from us

@mathijs:matrix.vgorcum.comMathijsfor this room that's probably not really that big a deal21:11:19
@mathijs:matrix.vgorcum.comMathijs but for #fdroid:f-droid.org it probably needs some talks, yeah 21:11:37

@proletarius101:matrix.orgproletarius101I proposed that apps in fdroiddata should submit their adaptive icons to have better illustration: https://gitlab.com/fdroid/fdroiddata/-/issues/239202:10:19
@proletarius101:matrix.orgproletarius101Good for both the app itself and the overall looking of fdoidclient02:10:48
@proletarius101:matrix.orgproletarius101* Good for both the app itself and the overall looking of fdoidclient02:11:22
@proletarius101:matrix.orgproletarius101 After the bootstrap script creating the host environment, do you know what invokes fdroid build? _hc 02:37:31
@sphinxcat:matrix.orgsphinx joined the room.06:26:54
@eighthave:matrix.org_hc proletarius101: you mean in production? manual or crontab 09:30:55
@eighthave:matrix.org_hc 幸猫: about doing sysadmining for F-Droid, are you looking for something to do every now and then? Or more something you can own as the lead on it? 13:07:01
@LjL:matrix.orgLjL cde, Mathijs : FYI, I emailed support@matrix.org as instructed on #irc:matrix.org and other places (such as #libera-matrix on Libera) to get rid of @appservice-irc:matrix.org for the purpose of re-bridging or even just to get rid of it since rooms are unbridged anyway and it looks ugly and misleading and I'm not happy with it being Admin.
While I was there listing a number of room IDs, I also included #fdroid, which is why this might be relevant to you. I got this email in response:
16:19:48
@LjL:matrix.orgLjLWe have received a lot if Freenode related requests the past couple of days. We will work our way through them in the order they came in. In order to speed up the processing of your case, please make sure we have a way of verifying you as the rightful owner of the room(s) you are asking about. For example by putting the sender email on the official website or GitHub page for your project. Please respond to this email to complete a 3-way handshake for email sender verification, and include any links or resources we can use to verify you as described above.16:19:56
@LjL:matrix.orgLjL I can't do that for most of my rooms as they aren't "projects", and I can't do that for F-Droid unless someone else done, but even then I'm not super-happy with my email being shown on websites.
Anyway, I also don't get why they are requiring this, when the bot is just there as a result of a bug: the rooms are unbridged, and it just didn't remove itself automatically as it is kind of supposed to. Why does it need any authorization to do what it's supposed to?
16:21:31
@mathijs:matrix.vgorcum.comMathijsI already have a support ticket for the fdroid rooms16:21:39
@mathijs:matrix.vgorcum.comMathijsBut we'll see which one will turn up first16:22:06
@LjL:matrix.orgLjL Mathijs: not sure if you are in #irc:matrix.org but I was told that if I have my email linked to my Matrix account on matrix.org (which I do), I can tell that to them in my reply email, and it should be sufficient. So I will do that 16:34:22
@LjL:matrix.orgLjL At the same time I really feel this is needlessy bureucratic: the expected and desired behavior is for the appservice bot to go away when unlinking a room. If it didn't do that, that's a (recognized) bug. So it should just be removed, there is no need to verify anyone... 16:34:57
@LjL:matrix.orgLjLAnd I've voiced that there, but whatever, last time I voiced things TravisR treathened me with bans, which they aren't doing now presumably because they aren't looking. These past few days I've been obviously been liking the freenode administration much less, but also the Libera adminsitration less, and disappointingly, the Matrix administration less. I hope for y'all that OFTC is nice.16:35:56
@mathijs:matrix.vgorcum.comMathijslisten: I regularly talk with the bridge dev16:39:49
@mathijs:matrix.vgorcum.comMathijsthis whole freenode mess completely blindsided them16:39:59
@mathijs:matrix.vgorcum.comMathijsand the amount of work is just way too much for the current bridging team (they are hiring to expand, by the way)16:40:31
@mathijs:matrix.vgorcum.comMathijsso they're working through it as fast as they can16:41:13
@mathijs:matrix.vgorcum.comMathijsbut honestly it feels really unfair to blame the matrix.org team for the mess created by the drama with freenode16:41:37
@mathijs:matrix.vgorcum.comMathijsI would assume that they'll try to figure out a way to get the bridge bot to leave unlinked rooms, by the way16:45:11
@mathijs:matrix.vgorcum.comMathijs(though I have no inside knowledge about attempts in that regard whatsoever)16:47:05
@mathijs:matrix.vgorcum.comMathijsin the mean time, we can tombstone this room and bridge the newly created room16:48:06
@mathijs:matrix.vgorcum.comMathijswe'll still need permission to bridge the f-droid room to oftc, though16:49:07
@mathijs:matrix.vgorcum.comMathijsbecause of the 100 user limit16:49:13
