@eighthave:matrix.org_hc(FYI my phone is in German so I use the trnslatiion)17:43:21
@eighthave:matrix.org_hcI guess that's kind of ironic, since I often write the en_US source strings 17:44:25

I didn't follow all this so closely. Does the German translation have mixed per du/per Sie?
I don't think so. But that's another topic, du and Sie. Currently it's Sie afa I know

I could handle migrating to Paketquelle with endings, but I might miss a couple.
Anyway, it means a lot of checks.
17:47:37
@eighthave:matrix.org_hcok, it might be easier to do that via gitlab merge request, then you can review just the changes before thy're merged17:48:16
@eighthave:matrix.org_hcthat would mean not changing the German translation as long as the merge request is open, since changes in Weblate would create painful merge conflicts.17:52:46
@eighthave:matrix.org_hcAlso, if there are any other open issues with word consistency, also for other languages, I'm happy to coordinate doing mass changes like this.17:57:13
@gunchleoc:glasgow.socialGunChleoc (co-shaoghal.net)You could make a draft merge request to review the translation, then use Weblate's file upload function to upload the files without merging the mr?18:23:24

FestplattenSchnitzel: critdroid and any other German speakers: I just noticed that both Repository and Paketquelle is in use across F-Droid. I propose to do a bulk migration to one of those terms. I'm mostly interested in consistency, so either word works for that. My personal preference is for Paketquelle because I think its clearer.
Another option would be fancy German "Repositorium". I like that one, but Paketquelle is probably the clearest one.

We don't have a short term like Repo for Paketquelle.
Why not just "Quelle"?

Actually I'm not convinced that it is a good idea to do the change from "Repo" to "Paketquelle". In the client we have 37 strings, 3 of them use the "Repo(sitory)" instead of "Paketquelle", what is inconsistent, indeed. On the other hand we count almost 400 strings in Docs and Posts plus about 100 in the components Server, Pages etc. All of them use the "Repository"
22:39:08
@critdroid:matrix.orgcritdroidWe plan to change more than 90% of the strings, why not the other 7%? Repository is a key term on F-Droid. Repository can be found on German Wikipedia (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Repository). Paketquelle is not a listed translation of it (https://dict.leo.org/englisch-deutsch/repository) and doesn't represent the entire meaning, imho. 22:50:52

@eighthave:matrix.org_hcThe change will be manageable either way, if I do it via merge request. I do this kind of change already when source strings change but translations shouldn't (e.g. typos, spelling)12:06:59
@eighthave:matrix.org_hcSo I think we should just choose the best word. * Repository does seem to be used in technical realms, Quelle is also mentioned in that Wikipedia article. " Pakrtquelle/Quelle as long and short versions Which word was first in use in F-Droid? Anyone know why different terms were used in different parts?12:10:26
@eighthave:matrix.org_hcRepository seems like the easy choice. I still think Paketquelle is a nice clear word, especially for those who don't work in software12:17:35
@basses:matrix.orgrandoAny updates on the Arabic announcement ๐Ÿ˜?12:56:36
@critdroid:matrix.orgcritdroid Paketquelle was in use first, as already mentioned in the app, which was the first translated component. The app is a very small piece of the huge F-Droid ecosystem and mainly used by non-tech end users, which will almost never explore the technical details behind. To avoid confusion amongst them by introducing a new term Paketquelle persisted, though meanwhile other very technical parts of F-Droid were translated. The question is if Paketquelle is truly an adequate substitute for this cases? 12:58:51
