paulali | Hello here, we are trying to bring F-Droid TWIF back.
If you have any news on Android or F-Droid or Translation news on F-Droid or anything with regards to FOSS on Android that you'd like highlighted. Please post it on the F-Droid forum thread at https://forum.f-droid.org/t/new-twif-submission-thread/23546/
Any input will be highly appreciated.
Thank you. | 08:27:47 |
rando | In reply to @eighthave:matrix.org If you translate any existing blog post 100%, it will be pushed to staging the next time the build runs. Translated https://f-droid.org/en/2023/06/16/progessive-web-client.html | 10:11:55 |
rando | In reply to @eighthave:matrix.org Are there any other blog posts translated to Arabic? nope | 10:12:04 |
_hc | FestplattenSchnitzel: critdroid and any other German speakers: I just noticed that both Repository and Paketquelle is in use across F-Droid. I propose to do a bulk migration to one of those terms. I'm mostly interested in consistency, so either word works for that. My personal preference is for Paketquelle because I think its clearer. | 13:11:36 |
_hc | rando: I just noticed that the RtL/LtR is messed up when a page is not translated: https://staging.f-droid.org/ar/docs/Get_F-Droid/ Let us know if this is something we can launch with. I think the Farsi and Hebrew translators solved this by translating most of the site. | 13:23:49 |
_hc | Hmm same problem there: https://f-droid.org/he/docs/Get_F-Droid/ https://f-droid.org/fa/docs/Get_F-Droid/ | 13:24:48 |
_hc | Any web devs out there that could fix that? I imagine there is a way to make a <div> or some kind of subsection be set for LtR | 13:27:46 |

rando | because all pages are RTL | 13:30:14 |

_hc | And that's what Arabic readers are used to? Looks very strange to me, but I only read LtR langauges. | 13:40:37 |

rando | Would be great if it worked out | 13:52:57 |
critdroid | In reply to @eighthave:matrix.org FestplattenSchnitzel: critdroid and any other German speakers: I just noticed that both Repository and Paketquelle is in use across F-Droid. I propose to do a bulk migration to one of those terms. I'm mostly interested in consistency, so either word works for that. My personal preference is for Paketquelle because I think its clearer. The other way would be easier. Paketquelle is only used in the client, nowhere else. Posts, docs... | 14:24:48 |
critdroid | All other components know Repo or Repository. | 14:25:56 |
critdroid | We don't have a short term like Repo for Paketquelle. | 14:26:58 |
critdroid | It's "das Repo" but "die ...quelle". So it will be a great effort changing all translations if they should stay grammatically correct. | 14:30:04 |
critdroid | * It's "das Repo" but "die ...quelle". So it will be a great effort changing all translations if they shall stay grammatically correct. | 14:36:09 |
_hc | I'm willing to do it, I'm good at regexs :-) | 14:36:55 |
critdroid | OK, I'm curious about it. If regex also solves changes of adjective endings, personal pronouns, we'll see ;-) | 15:32:54 |
_hc | I didn't follow all this so closely. Does the German translation have mixed per du/per Sie? | 17:37:53 |
_hc | If so, I think I could fix that | 17:38:16 |
_hc | I could handle migrating to Paketquelle with endings, but I might miss a couple. | 17:39:01 |
_hc | (FYI my phone is in German so I use the trnslatiion) | 17:43:21 |
_hc | I guess that's kind of ironic, since I often write the en_US source strings | 17:44:25 |
critdroid | In reply to @eighthave:matrix.org I didn't follow all this so closely. Does the German translation have mixed per du/per Sie? I don't think so. But that's another topic, du and Sie. Currently it's Sie afa I know | 17:46:31 |
critdroid | In reply to @eighthave:matrix.org I could handle migrating to Paketquelle with endings, but I might miss a couple. Anyway, it means a lot of checks. | 17:47:37 |
_hc | ok, it might be easier to do that via gitlab merge request, then you can review just the changes before thy're merged | 17:48:16 |
_hc | that would mean not changing the German translation as long as the merge request is open, since changes in Weblate would create painful merge conflicts. | 17:52:46 |
